This week the Coast Guard has staged response assets in key areas ahead of storms Marco, which made landfall earlier this week, and the upcoming Hurricane Laura — both of which impact the Gulf Coast. |
“Our ability to conduct rescues can be diminished or non-existent at the height of a storm, but we have our crews staged and ready to respond to emergencies immediately after each storm passes,” said CMDR Mickey Dougherty, area commander for the Marco/Laura response, in a press release this week. |

At the Coast Guard Foundation, we have been preparing in the event of an active storm season because when hurricanes strike, Coast Guard members are first responders. They leave their own families and damaged homes and property to aid others in distress. |
During and after disaster events, we partner with the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association to quickly distribute financial relief. We are standing ready to support Coast Guard families should they need us, and we will keep you updated on how you can help. |
